1-Day Itinerary – Romantic
If you only have one day, enjoy it without trying to see everything. Riomaggiore and Manarola are at their best when you take the time to pause: a sudden view of the sea, dinner in the villages, the sunset’s glow on the colorful houses.
Suggested itinerary
Start in Riomaggiore, preferably in the morning when the village is still quiet. Stroll along Via Colombo, head down toward the small harbor, and spend a few minutes among the boats, the cliffs, and the colorful houses. Then walk up toward the castle: it’s one of the most accessible spots to view Riomaggiore from above and appreciate its vertical layout.
In the afternoon, head to Manarola. If open, the Via dell’Amore is the most picturesque path connecting the two villages; alternatively, you can take a quick train ride to spend more time exploring the marina, the historic center, and the Church of San Lorenzo.
For sunset, pick the spot that best suits your mood: Punta Bonfiglio for Manarola’s most iconic postcard view, Riomaggiore’s small harbor for a more intimate setting, or a boat tour to experience the coast from the water. End the day with dinner in one of the villages and a peaceful evening stroll, just as the atmosphere becomes quieter.
Good to know
- Book the Via dell’Amore, boat tours, and restaurants in advance during peak seasons.
- Punta Bonfiglio and the small harbor can get very crowded at sunset.
- For those spending the night, the evening is magical: it’s your chance to experience the villages at their most peaceful
