1-Day Itinerary – Outdoor
The best way to truly understand this region is on foot. Hike up above the villages, follow the historic stairways through vineyards and Mediterranean brush, and look out over the sea from a whole new perspective.
Suggested Itinerary
Start early to catch the cooler morning air and enjoy the trails at their best. From Riomaggiore, hike up to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montenero following Trail 593, or challenge yourself on the more direct 593V alternative.
With every step upward, the village fades into the distance as a breathtaking view unfolds: the endless sea below, vertical vineyards, and the sanctuary guiding your way. Stop at the viewpoint to catch your breath—here, the coast reveals itself on a much grander scale.
Head back down to Riomaggiore at your own pace and dedicate the afternoon to pure relaxation: wander through the historic lanes, visit the castle, and unwind by the harbor.
Good to know
- Always check the condition of the trails before setting out.
- Wear hiking boots or shoes with non-slip soles.
- Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen.
- Avoid exposed sections during the middle of the day.
